A farming system typology for the adoption of new technology in Bangladesh

Over the last three decades, few studies have been conducted to tackle complexity and heterogeneity of Bangladesh farming systems. We address these research gaps with a new survey. Accordingly, survey was in North-Western understand how socio-economic traits influence technology adoption identify characterize key farm types. The based on household characteristics, structure, practices livestock as well economic performance farm. Principal component analysis (PCA) cluster (CA) were used establish different typologies, data set 27 variables carefully analysed. findings confirmed that significantly affect agricultural technologies relate age, experience, level education head, income, access markets, land ownership, proportion hired labour, savings, food self-sufficiency income from off-farm activities. Four main types identified study area resource endowment livelihood orientation. These are (1) well-resourced farmers entirely dependent agriculture less reliant activities; (2) moderately resourced households, which headed by an older male greater experience engaged both on-farm (3) resource-constrained households cattle generated sale products; (4) severely young farmers/men where is four categories represent farms North-West Bangladesh, it hoped development this typology will help particularly extension service, up appropriate advice benefit community.
